The Art of Aging: Advice to my Younger Self.
This March, we’re getting back to our roots (and nope, we don’t dye ‘em): we’re talking aging. We’re all getting older, but are we getting wiser? You will, after this warm, wise celebration of female voices from across the ages. You can expect our usual mix of hilarious and heartfelt tales that’ll leave you feeling inspired about your next chapter, no matter your age.
Team 20s: Glynn Pogue is a writer from Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. Her work centers around her community of brownstones and brown people. Named one of Brooklyn Magazine’s 30 under 30, Glynn’s writing has been featured in Vogue, Guernica, Essence, National Geographic Traveler, and others. She regularly sounds off on her own podcast, Black Girls Texting.
Team 30s: Jackie Faherty is both a Senior Scientist and a Senior Education Manager in the Department of Astrophysics and the Department of Education at the American Museum of Natural History. She strives to create more opportunities for underrepresented minorities to enter STEM fields through unique outreach endeavors.
Team 40s: Verta Maloney runs her own business helping individuals and organizations share their racial autobiographies and stories in order to act on and undo racism in this lifetime. She is also co-founder and Chief Community Officer at the*gameHERs, a gaming community for women, and a founding team member at Civics Unplugged because she knows #TheKidsWillLead.
Team 50s: Ex-nun genderqueer comic, Kelli Dunham has appeared on Showtime, the Discovery Channel, the Cinderblock Comedy Festival, the Women in Comedy Festival and nationwide at colleges, prides, fundraisers and even the occasional livestock auction. She’s the author of seven books including the best-selling Boy's Body Book. Her latest comic storytelling album is Not the Gym Teacher.
Team 60s: Janice Maffei is a playwright, storyteller, and entrepreneur who presented at Generation Women’s inaugural show on the topic “The First Time I Said No,” later recognized as a “Best of GW.” Her writing has been published in The Southampton Review, The Paterson Literary Review and HowlRound. Her newest project, Reclaim Plan A™, sparks people to thread their dreams in the day to day. She’s a co-founder of VisionFirst helping teams think forward, create change and get results.
Team 70: Pamela Vassil is retired, but hardly retiring. She is a writer, activist, volunteer, mother, “Gramma,” and friend. Former community board member and Parks & Historic Preservation Committee Chair. She is also figuring out how to survive on Social Security all while in search of a funny joke and a good man who can tell it.
