The Final Push: Stories of Perseverance and Resilience.

It’s 2021: but we’re not out of the woods yet. As we enter into (hopefully!) the beginning of the end of this global pandemic, we’ve invited our superstar storytellers to tell us a true story of grit and gumption. A time where they faced a metaphorical or actual beast . . . and slayed.

Team 20s: Madison Malone Kircher is a senior writer at New York Magazine's Vulture where she covers culture and edits the Approval Matrix. She is a graduate of Hamilton College. Madison lives in Brooklyn with many plants on the brink of death. The plants, not her.

Team 30s: Maya Deshmukh is an award-winning actor and comedian based in NYC. You can see her performing as "Brown Rice" with her satirical K-pop girl group, AzN POP, and co-hosting the monthly fashion-comedy show, Fashion Puhleeze.  She’s been featured on Betches, Nick Mom, Funny or Die, and HBO's High Maintenance.

Team 40s: Duvall O’Steen is an actor whose TV credits include Bull, Difficult People, and Jessica Jones. As co-director of The Actor's Project NYC, she regularly appears in their Off-Broadway industry showcases. Theatre credits include one-woman-show Thrive (United Solo Festival) and sold out runs of Bad Evidence, Art, and many more.

Team 50s: Marivi Soliven has authored 17 books, including The Mango Bride (Penguin, 2013), which won grand prize at the Palanca Awards, the Philippine counterpart of the Pulitzer Prize. She organizes fundraisers for  nonprofits that support domestic violence survivors and serves  fellow immigrants in her day job as a phone interpreter.

Team 60s: Anne Westrick is the author of Brotherhood, an award-winning young adult novel about white supremacy—a story she wrote as historical fiction, not knowing its themes would become current. She’s published short stories and essays, and writes a monthly blog featuring in-depth interviews with authors.

Team 70s: In the 1980’s, Mariann Aalda was a television trailblazer as one of the first African-American daytime soap opera heroines, playing criminal attorney, DiDi Bannister, on ABC’s Edge of Night. Today, she’s blazing new trails, prosecuting ageism with her solo show, TEDx talk, and as an AARP Age Disruptor.
