Our last show was 7/31/22
Our theme is My Big Change: Stories of New Paths.
We’ve been delighting audiences in New York City for the past five years, and this summer, we’re taking the show on the road. Join us at the iconic Phoenicia Playhouse on Saturday July 30th for a night of stories on the theme of change and new directions. We’re inviting our line-up of local storytelling superstars to share a tale on a time they made a big change, or had a new change happen to them. Life is full of twists and turns so join us up in the Catskills to enjoy the wit and wisdom from performers of all ages!
Team 30s: Erica Brown is native resident of Kingston, NY, currently working as the Community Engagement Coordinator at Radio Kingston, where she also hosts Let’s Talk Kingston. She is a board member at the Kingston Farmers Market, Good Work Institute, and TMI Project as well as a trustee of the Kingston Library. Erica is the mother of two incredible young men and loves being able to work as an active member in the City of Kingston.
Team 40s: Simi Stone is a renowned musician, songwriter, and visual artist born and raised in the storied town of Woodstock, NY. Over the last few years Simi has found herself as a guest vocalist on two of Natalie Merchant’s albums and recording with The New Pornographers, Neko Case, Conor Oberst, Gipsy Kings, Simone Felice, and Amy Helm. Aside from musical accomplishments, The Visual Works of Simi Stone were showcased at Ardnaglass Gallery from May – July 2016.
Team 50s: Beth Broun has done stand up, soaps, theater, TV, including two seasons on SNL. Now she spends her days having spinal taps, MRIs and infusions in a trial for a medication to reverse damage by multiple sclerosis. If it works you have her word she will tap dance naked while storytelling.
Team 60s: Nan Tepper is 61 years old, and damned happy about it. She refuses to be discouraged about the future despite her outrage at the state of the nation. She's lived in the Hudson Valley for 30 years and makes her living as a web and graphic designer.
Team 70s: Martha Frankel is always surprised by how much she doesn’t know. Others seem less surprised. She published two books, Hats & Eyeglasses, and a self-help book about relationships and genital hair removal, Brazilian Sexy. This year she learned how to make her eyebrows look fuller, how to make watermelon taste exactly like tuna sushi, and how to say she’s sorry in three more languages. It’s still not enough. Martha also runs Woodstock Bookfest.
Team 80s: Verna Gillis’ niche is aging and so is she. Her one older woman’s Tales from Geriassic Park–On the Verge of Extinction won Best Comedic Script in 2014 at the United Solo Theatre Festival in NYC. She has won two story slams. Her most recent book is An Insight Job.
